Forever & A Day!

The wedding has come and gone and now I'm officially a Mrs.!
It was literally the BEST day of my life... so far!
As soon as we get the rest of the photos I'll be sure to share a few favorites.
For now it's back to work and normal life.

All moved in!
It's been a crazy week but we're all settled in. Getting up at 4 am isn't old yet and neither is the 45 minute commute to work... there is a strong possibility that this could change. 
Here's a peek at our new place. Which just so happens to be the venue for our wedding and reception and my grandparents house. (They love us and haven't wanted to kick us out yet but this too could change)

Here's one of my favorite smoothie recipes!
On days when I don't feel  like breaking out the juicer I have this delicious treat!
It's loaded with superfoods and "good for your skin" ingredients!

This recipe is super easy and very customizable. I like to always have at least 1 type of berry because they're loaded with antioxidants. Since I haven't had a smoothie all weekend I used 3 for this one... blueberries, strawberries, and goji berries! I also threw in a banana for the texture.
You may not be familiar with all of the ingredients so here's a little run down:
cacao nibs - raw chocolate, packed with nutrients & is a natural mood lifter! Get it raw so it's still full of all those good for you things that get cooked out of most chocolates!
bee pollen - I get this in capsule form because it's just cheaper that way where I shop but it's also available in powder form. If you get the capsules just pop them open, use the contents, and toss the capsule (they're biodegradable so no worries =)) It's rich in B vitamins, vitamin C & E, and antioxidants! Bee pollen is also said to have many anti aging benefits, help maintain your weight, and boost your immune system. It also works well at combating seasonal allergies! 
maca root - I use the capsule form of this for the same reason as the bee pollen. Peruvian maca root is an adaptogen that regulates hormones in both men and women. It is said to boost energy and for women it combats PMS and acne associated with your cycle.
Spirulina - It may sound icky but spirulina is basically algae. BUT, it's algae that has been shown to prevent heart damage, reduce severity of stroke, restore motor skills after a stroke, reverse age related mental decline, prevent and treat hay fever, correct anemia, correct cholesterol & blood pressure problems... and so on and so forth. There is soooo much information on spirulina. I'm not saying it's going to cure anything that may be wrong with you but hey it can't hurt... unless you have any type of marine algae then you should omit this ingredient just to be safe!
Goji Berries - aka the wolfberry (which I happen to prefer haha) This superfood is loaded with vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Like spirulina there are tons of claims to all sorts of healing properties! 
The other ingredients are pretty common but of course it's best to research everything you put into your body so if you have any questions google is a wonderful thing =]
I hope you enjoy this recipe. I love that it can be made to fit anyone's taste. Be sure to follow the directions on each of the products you purchase because there CAN be too much of a good thing! =]

I'm a bad blogger.
Well, really I'm bad at time management which in turn makes me a bad blogger.
The past few weeks have been cuh-razy! Packing, sorting through every last single thing we own to determine what stays and what goes, wedding, wedding suit being eaten by a pack of wild dogs (my grandparents dogs... close enough to wild), finding the perfect wedding shoes & jewelry, replacing afore mentioned suit, finding shoes for Shea, finishing D.I.Y. projects for the wedding... which is everything btw, working, still doing little projects at the studio like reupholstering a fancy antique chair, working on ideas for updating the look of this little bloggy, and tons of other things I can't even think of right now! 
We've been so busy we haven't even had a chance to see our new baby cousin Carter!
Sorry Shannon & Dan! We love you guys!

So yeah, that's why I've been a bad blogger but I promise to make up for it eventually. Once we move we'll probably be without internet connection for a day or so but after that it's back on track! (nevermind the fact that I've said that in probably the last 5 posts hehe oops)

Well I'm off to start wrapping up my jewelry so here's a little somethin somethin that reminds me of those myspace surveys haha Just click on it to make it bigger!

With the upcoming Fall season I decided to incorporate a little seasonal variety in todays post...apples!
Apples are rich in natural enzymes, antioxidants, nutrients and malic acid.
Malic acid is a gentle exfoliant and is great for those who have sensitive skin or allergies to lactic acid.
Apples can be use in numerous ways as demonstrated in these posts. And yep, that's right, I'm cheating today! My mom, sister, my future mother in law, and myself are heading out to purchase their mother of the bride & groom dresses today so check out these links with great recipes using apples!

Hope you enjoy these! Apples are great for all skin types & they're good for your body also! So this is kind of a diy skin care & skin food post all in one. Apples contain lots of fiber so of course they help "cleanse" you internally which in turn cleanses you externally! Go apples! Poor guys, they're so under rated!

Hyper pigmentation.  It's just a fancy word for age spots, sun spots, freckles, dark spots, acne scars, etc...
I'm sure you apply your sunscreen religiously when you're out and about but unfortunately those dark little lovelies will eventually pop up somewhere on your porcelain skin. 
If you're like me and not ready for hours of torture from peels & lasers that can ultimately do more harm than good then here's a little recipe for an at home "peel."
This definitely won't completely fade any spots you have, but it will definitely lighten them over time!
As with any skin care regimen the most important thing is to stick with it!
So many people start something and if they don't see immediate results then they give up!
With natural skin care it takes time, but your body will definitely thank you in the end. =]

To lighten age spots & sun damaged skin, mix:
the juice of 1 lemon
the juice of 1 lime
2 tbsp of honey
2 oz of plain yogurt (1/4c.)
Gently spread over a freshly cleansed face, neck, & decollete' and gently massage into any problem areas.
Let mask sit 20 minutes and then rinse away. Follow with a toner, moisturizer, & spf.
My lemon & lime were extra juicy so it was pretty runny. Be VERY careful not to let it drip into your eyes. Lemon & lime juice and your eyeballs do not mix!
This recipe does make alot so have an empty jar handy to save leftovers in the fridge.
Because of the lemon and lime juice this might sting a little, especially if you have sensitive or acne prone skin. You can do this mask once a week until you see results. I would not recommend doing it more than once a week because the acidic juices can be too much for the skin if applied too often, So use your best judgement and be kind to your skin!

Oh, and it's very important to apply sunscreen after doing this peel because your skin will be a little more sensitive to the sun. And you don't want those spots coming back do you?!

It's been over a week since my last post but I'm very excited to announce the reason why!
I finally finished my skin care line and it's now up on Etsy!
I'm very proud of the products I've created and so far I've had nothing but positive responses from clients, family, friends, and all of my little guinea pigs out there! haha
Here's a little run down of what's available:
3 different cleansers:
The cleanser for normal & dry skin types are both oil cleansers. I just couldn't get people with oily skin to fall in love with the oil cleansing method so the oily skin cleanser does lather a little and contains an olive oil based soap. It's still very nourishing and works amazingly well at keeping skin balanced and not overly dry! All of the cleansers are very gentle and smell great! There's a little summary of each product in the Etsy store.

3 different toners:
Since products containing water tend to grow mold and all kinds of nasty things they NEED to contain a preservative to maintain freshness. Instead of opting for some crazy chemical cocktail I chose to use vitamin C in all of the toners. Vitamin C is a known preservative & boosts the power of the toners by brightening the skin and acting as a very mild sunscreen!

And, 3 different serums:
I LOVE these serums! Many people ask me, "what's the one product I need if I'm going to invest in a skin care line?" While properly prepping your skin with cleansers and toners is very important, a really good serum or moisturizer is key to addressing issues with your skin! Most of your key ingredients for fighting acne, wrinkles, redness, dark spots, etc... are found in your serums & moisturizers. Right now I only offer a serum but a line of moisturizers is coming soon! These serums are actually more like an all in one product. Unless your skin is very dry you probably won't even need a moisturizer at all!

All of these products will also be available at my studio if you would rather stop by and pick them up! Again, I'm VERY excited about these products & hope you try them out & let me know what you think! I know you'll love them!
